Some people watch the sunrise. I rise with it. I’m Aaron Gebhart, a commercial hot air balloon pilot based in Iowa, and I’ve built my life around one simple idea: giving people a new perspective. There’s something almost sacred about those early morning launches. The burners roar, the balloon fills, and then suddenly… we’re floating. Below us stretch miles of Iowa cornfields, quilted together in shades of green and gold. At sunset, the land glows amber, shadows grow long, and the sky turns into a painting. Up there, something changes in people. Phones go quiet. Conversations soften. Smiles get bigger. I love helping people step away from the rush of everyday life and experience the calm, quiet beauty of flight. Every launch is different. Every passenger has a story. And it’s an honor to be the one guiding them safely through the sky. For me, ballooning isn’t just a job — it’s sharing awe, one sunrise at a time.
